Job Description:
The Zahn Innovation Center at CCNY is looking for a part-time Fellow to support early stage startups with front-end development and UX/UI design. Help entrepreneurial teams build early prototypes of websites and apps. Currently the Zahn Center hosts 30 teams from across all verticals, working on startups that vary from connected devices to web platforms to social mission-driven ideas. We are looking for a rockstar developer and designer, interested in supporting students, faculty and staff across the campus with their startup ideas.
This position combines creative thinking with execution. The Fellow will work closely with teams ranging from 2-5 individuals, helping them define a simple visual experience to test their ideas. The Fellow will work intensely in the initial two months to support teams in a Startup Bootcamp at the Zahn Center, preparing for demo day at the end of April. Following this program, select teams will continue to develop their ideas and the Fellow will go into greater depth in working on fewer startup projects.
Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and design direction to teams in helping them clarify their ideas.
- Help drive students to develop details of their “brand” and “user experience” so they can then better visualize what needs to be built.
- Lead the implementation of the websites for the teams, enabling students to test their ideas, build traction, and have an exciting pitch to both judges and the public.
- Evolve winning ideas with the teams to consult on the build of more in-depth sites, apps and products.
- Establish a website template that all students could use as a landing page to promote their ideas.
Requirements:
- Real-world client experience; developed sites or apps for actual commercial products or services.
- A design background with an emphasis in visual communication, UX or graphic design.
- Basic facility with backend operations of websites or apps.
- Understanding of domain setup and maintenance.
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
Position Details:
- A minimum of 15-20 hours/week.
- Pay commensurate with experience.
- Start date: ASAP
