Deadbeat Drums: When learning the drums, a student is required to learn fundamental beats or rhythms called rudiments. However, keeping track of the rudiments and the progress made with each can be confusing and overwhelming to the drum student. Deadbeat Drums offers the student a visual and interactive approach to learning and practicing the rudiments, by adding low cost electronics to a drum kit. A web/smart phone app allows the student to choose a rudiment to practice and keep track of their progress.

VistaWearables
Vista Wearable: our team is creating a wireless wearable vibrotactile actuator that is capable of conveying detailed information to wearers. While vibrators have been around for a long time, using them to convey detailed information tactilely through the skin has been a difficult process. Our device will consist of a comfortable strap with a small vibrator, battery, and bluetooth low energy chip. We plan to design this device so that it is capable of delivering the maximum amount of tactile information to the wearer in the widest variety of circumstances. We will also publish a simple communication protocol that allows application developers to be able to implement vibrotactile feedback in their designs without having to design wearable devices or immerse themselves in the subtleties of vibrotactile feedback control. By removing this barrier, we hope to encourage the development of a cornucopia of new vibrotactile feedback applications.

The app will also offer the option of the aggregation process for reviews that appear on any other website, e.g., Amazon, Yelp, NYTimes article comments. We are currently working on aggregating Amazon product reviews.
Sunset Farms: The Sunset Farms is setting out to figure out the best model for entry into the urban farming sector in Brooklyn, NY. It is a small sector, currently being occupied by only a few urban farm operations and scattered gardens none of which are of a major commercial capacity. This allows a huge swath of space with great potential to create a business model that hits two important points for urban food production: engaging strongly with food justice issues, and reaching the full potential of food production right in the city and long lasting commercial viability. As much as this is a food justice project and seizing opportunity of a new and sparsely populated sector, it is also an economic justice and development project, a revitalization project for the target area, a landmark preservation project, a sustainability and Earth saving project, and an education project.

ekick
EkiCk: With phones discharging on a regular basis, skate/long boarders are having a difficult time recharging their electronic devices while riding, commuting, or hanging with friends. Some of the current options to recharge are to go back home, go to a cafe, use a 200 ft extension cord or to use an extended battery. These options not only take away time from skating but they can also be inconvenient. At EkiCk we want to solve this issue with our Cruising = Charging technology and help skaters become independent of the grid. Cruising = Charging uses the rider's kinetic energy to power your electronic devices. This means a few things, no waiting for your phone to charge, you get time back to ride, create green energy, independence from charging location and still have practical skate/long board components.
Quinoa Express: The primary product this startup aims to develop is a microwavable rapid quinoa cooker/container with a built-in plastic strainer. A rapid microwavable cooker would help reduce cooking time from 15 to 7 minutes. Combining it with the built-in strainer, it reduces rinse/preparation time/steps to less than 30 seconds . Ultimately, the design overcomes home limitations and enables consumers to prepare/cook quinoa everywhere with water and microwave. The design will have measurement lines to indicate quinoa and water ratios.
