Plateau - Mouse Surgical Platform: The MSP is a versatile, innovative, and ergonomically designed surgical platform for mice used in research surgeries. The Plateau MSP is an interdisciplinary device that can be used in areas such as genetics, cancer, cardiovascular and bone research, just to name a few. The Plateau MSP cuts down on set-up time, provides specialized amenities and helps reduce researcher fatigue. Our cutting edge design was inspired by simplicity and molded from months of surgeon and researcher input. The Plateau MSP is a research tool that will bridge the gap between animal models and clinical trials and change the face of research.
Unprintme
Unprint: a greener, quicker, and more cost effective alternative to the paper recycling process. It is a printer with the dual capability of printing and un-printing. This printer will utilize laser ablation techniques to burn the ink off paper, leaving the page clean and undamaged. Laser ablation, if used to recycle paper, only produces about 300 kg of CO2. This is 80% less CO2 emissions than those produced through standard recycling methods.

GesTherapy: Using motion sensing technologies, such as 3D cameras or the Microsoft Kinect, we create a virtual environment that allows physical therapy and rehabilitation to be done with ease. This would allow the patient to undergo a self fulfilled therapeutic experience in the comfort of their own home. In addition the therapist would be able to receive feedback on how their patient is doing which allows for better diagnosis and quicker recovery time. The applications of this software can allow better assessment and execution in areas of: sports, neurological, and orthopedic therapy.

Dynamic Braille was founded during the fall of 2010 with the objective to design and market a cheaper, yet effective refreshable braille display by utilizing electroactive polymers developed within the City College research laboratories. We hope to make accessing information cheaper and more accessible for the visually impaired. With the guidance of Professor Daniel Steingart and Professor Ilona Kretzschmar, we demonstrated the feasibility and marketability of our idea and won the inaugural Kaylie Entrepreneurship Competition in 2010.

Wearable Vibrations: our team is creating a wireless wearable vibrotactile actuator that is capable of conveying detailed information to wearers. While vibrators have been around for a long time, using them to convey detailed information tactilely through the skin has been a difficult process. Our device will consist of a comfortable strap with a small vibrator, battery, and bluetooth low energy chip. We plan to design this device so that it is capable of delivering the maximum amount of tactile information to the wearer in the widest variety of circumstances. We will also publish a simple communication protocol that allows application developers to be able to implement vibrotactile feedback in their designs without having to design wearable devices or immerse themselves in the subtleties of vibrotactile feedback control. By removing this barrier, we hope to encourage the development of a cornucopia of new vibrotactile feedback applications.
Deadbeat Drums: When learning the drums, a student is required to learn fundamental beats or rhythms called rudiments. However, keeping track of the rudiments and the progress made with each can be confusing and overwhelming to the drum student. Deadbeat Drums offers the student a visual and interactive approach to learning and practicing the rudiments, by adding low cost electronics to a drum kit. A web/smart phone app allows the student to choose a rudiment to practice and keep track of their progress.
